I See What You Mean – By Lawrence Argent

If you arrived at work tomorrow morning to find the eye of a giant blue bear peering back at you from your sheet glass window, you too might be compelled to consider what; in fact, Argent intends this work to mean. Stepping over the fine line between nature and technology, public and private space, Argent’s nosy creature was created for Denver, Colorado’s Office of Public Affairs. At forty feet tall, Argent’s bear encourages a dialogue about the meaning of art and the viewer’s ability to confront a work head-on in an attempt at shared vision.

Twist – By Mark P. Williamson

Curling and surging diagonally along the surface of “Twist,” the marble spirals seem to be the result of a woman’s face bursting through the stone. Powerfully carved with a sense of breath-holding anticipation, our lady’s expression seems to mirror the motion of the “Twist,” captured in a dynamic moment of possibility.

Litigation – By Candace Knapp

Designed through a public art program for the Hillsborough County Florida Court House, Knapp’s “Litigation” sculptures stand high above the jury, depicting the legal process in fanciful detail. Meant to embody the process of legal arguement, “Litigation” shows all sides of a trial, from the initial accustation to the flying paperwork to the final downward stroke of the gavel. This interactive pair, placed in the court’s waiting room, were designed to help relieve the stress of those awaiting their trial.

The Waltz – By Candace Knapp

Harmoniously bound in each other’s rhythm, these violins imaginatively dance “The Waltz’s” steps.  Knapp’s instruments appear to sway to their own tune, at once accentuating and transcending their instrumental forms.  Moving briskly and purposefully, the duo glides through space, guided by the boundless potential of their inner notes.

Oracle – By J. Mac

This wise prophetess gazes down on her seeing stone, seeking answers from an unseen deity. “Oracle’s” curving, feminine body is constructed from layers of intersecting rope, the twine taking on an intricate three-dimensional shape as it outlines her graceful figure. Alluring and mystifying, human yet otherworldly, this “Oracle” appears perched on the edge of illusion and reality.

Whirl – By Mark P. Williamson

Despite the flowing curves that encircle her face, or perhaps because of them, this woman seems caught in an extended moment of peaceful reverie. Though bold red bits snap at her shoulders and curls of blue wash over her face, a band of flawless white remains, unyielding, around the top of her head, suggesting a balanced, lucid mindset in the midst of life’s “Whirl.”
